Inaction is indeed Action. Israeli president stated “War against Hamas intended ‘to save the values of Western civilisation”. Concerned as he is about western civilisation let me suggest a slight tweak to the statement to make it a bit more realistic; “The genocide against Palestinians demonstrates the hollowness of values of Western civilisation – applying double standards based on racial biases (something I have no shred of doubt about) – and a dark chapter in its history”. I honestly don’t know what happens next but this much I can predict; when rules of combat are trashed and genocide allowed to continue no one can realistically claim the moral high ground. This coupled with the fact that western powers that have actively/deliberately taken the choice not to support a ceasefire and/or an end (rather than yet again patch up) the longest running conflict in the region despite the facts/images we continue to see are now part of the conflict; all this points to a much more likely expansion of the conflict in unpredictable/unconventional ways. The western alliance has lost all credibility and ramifications of that alone can have devastating consequences in terms of geopolitical influence, security as well as economically particularly once there is a pierce in the political iron dome that currently rules the region through corruption/political intimidation because once this happens all bets are off including whatever plans are currently being drawn for a region that’s currently nearing a boiling point. In other words the containment policy that has worked well for so long pre recent escalation would be a very short-sighted proposition indeed. A first step in the right direction would be to replace high ranking officials with suspect allegiances with others who are well experienced with the conflict and are genuinely keen on a just/final resolution to be implemented ASAP based on existing template for a 2-state solution because the real threat we see today is most certainly an internal one that’s driven by supporting/protecting false narratives/assumptions rather than driven by facts.
But then again I may be completely off the mark, so let’s see how things shape up.
