Truly incredible but not all that surprising. Here’s also an important detail; there’s always been the suggestion by Israel that civilians are being used by terrorists as human shields without much in the way of evidence; now it seems that civilians are being used by the IDF to pressure terrorist which is why the shackles (or restraints) of military engagement where civilian population is involved are now completely off. Even worse; it seems that lessons of 1948 are being repeated by the attempt yet again to impose a reshaping of the region as a measure of containment rather than resolve the root cause of the conflict; in other words kick the can down the road and hope for the best (mainly for short-term political considerations) but the problem of course is that we’re slowly reaching the end of that same old road, so what happens next? More regional instability/conflicts and their expansion, more death/destruction, more resource bleeds, environmental & economic chaos and of course a boom in illegal migration? Take your pick! But of course I may be completely off the mark about this pressure cooker of a region and all will be well, done & dusted and we’ll all live happily ever after once these minor geopolitical tweaks are completed.
Finally, I cannot end without commending this brilliant young Israeli because despite the toxic ideology surrounding him, his values and morals are intact. Truly inspiring and possibly an indication that there are many of the new generation of Israeli’s who see the reality of the conflict and more importantly the reality of the toxic ecosystem created by right-wing religious fanatics in Israel and who may one day seek to finally crack it. Both Israeli’s and Palestinians deserve better and in my personal opinion once this conflict is resolved there is much more they share than one might think. Resolving this conflict is NOT a Zero-Sum game as many believe; if only people consider the benefits of resolution and if the International community can finally help focus hearts/minds in that direction with a detailed supportive plan/strategy for resolution we may see some promising change – it is after all clear incentives that drive rigid ideologies/policies. Maybe?
Just a thought.
