Australian PM Scott Morrison wrote in a newspaper column on Tuesday in addressing criticism of his pledge for Australia to reach net zero emissions by 2050; “We won’t be lectured by others who do not understand Australia. The Australian Way is all about how you do it, and not if you do it. It’s about getting it done.”

All I would say is “really”? When talking about climate change and you do not recognize the urgency of cutting carbon emissions which is all about the “how” bit then I suspect that it is NOT Australia that needs to be lectured but your good old self mr. morrison. Ignorance when it comes to dealing with health crisis like the one we’re facing now or environmental crisis like the one we’re also facing right now has far disastrous ramifications that go far beyond Australia – this is where Nationalism stops dead in its tracks and Globalism takes over in terms of coming up with effective solutions whether you like it or not.

If anything this approach in dealing with both environmental and health crisis reveals the utter naivety and ignorance of nationalist ideologies in dealing with national issues as well as global crisis simply because of the unrealistic narrow context in which they seek to come up with delusional solutions to complex problems in an interconnected world. The fact of the matter is – whether promonents of these ideologies care to admit it or their ignorance/lack of basic decency stands in the way – Nationalism is all about Rhetoric & Punch Lines but not really suited for coming with true/pragmatic solutions – in fact it is sometimes about fabricating crisis in the first place so that panic/fear drives reactive politics; in other words its purely/entirely about control of politics & people in a fictional reality.

Just a thought!
