Locking out EU migrants and now heading east for migration deals – well now that makes good sense, doesn’t it. The problem as with any other political/economic debates is that people tend to have less knowledge/expertise (myself included in the mix) to make critical decisions particularly when it comes to validating talking points/banners. This is precisely why the lack of rules/guidelines affecting critical public debates are a major threat to democratic governance yet they are the shining armour for extremist politicians from all sides of the political spectrum who abuse free speech and democratic governance loopholes to take an entire nation for a ride. The single clear/unfiltered lesson of BREXIT is simple and if we’re clever we take it seriously to make amends on how we do politics;
“Disinformation and lack of accountability for it are the primary threat to democracy and foundational values; or in other words the “clever” workaround to bypass them altogether.
So the hope from this end is that in the NOT too distant future we find ways to block that “workaround” once and for all. We also need to allow democratic processes take their course more often than not in making critical rulings that affect the nation for generations to come; we’re not playing a game of “Risk” are we?
Just a thought.
