It seems to me as political layman that the term coined into the American psyche of “Promised Land” is being (and will always be) used to turn America into the “Isolated Island” where U.S. interests largely supersedes interests of other nations around the world irrespective of political ideologies within the U.S. The problem of course is that Americans by in large – partially due to this view though also due to both distance and ignorance on many foreign policy and/or in terms of just basic knowledge beyond the borders – become a lucrative power there to be hijacked either through internal corruption and/or powerful foreign lobbies which then turn the equation into a lethal formula there for the taking. Let me make a final point; as someone who was educated at very young age an American school – which had a big influence on me due to age at the time – and worked for the USIS through the Fulbright program, America to me was my kinda “Promised Land” but growing up and reading/watching the contradictions I began to realise that it is more of a hijacked island. Do you know that in most countries around the world U.S. government entities have their own supermarkets of products delivered directly from the U.S. (I was shocked to find that out and I assume this is still ongoing-granted not a big deal but provides some context). Take away politics and you’ll discover – if you didn’t happen to know one – they are in the main absolutely brilliant/friendly and they did contribute plenty to world order but not consistently and sometimes even have/continue to dismantle it, again because of this “island” mentality hijacked by ideologues & lobbyists.
So read my posts critical of the U.S. baring this little nugget in mind.
