Here’s what’s happening (in my opinion)
1. The EU rather than contributing in efforts to de-escalate and come up with a new vision to resolve consequential conflicts, they take the tried and tested role; arrogantly demanding others to change course without addressing key issues or getting involved beyond throwing tax payer money at problems in the hope they eventually go away; with no accountability or effective oversight to determine feasibility of money thrown left, right and centre.
2. The trending slogan in the EU is; “this is not our war” when in actual fact it most certainly is considering Europe reliance on key resources from the region – not to mention its stability considering proximity to the region and how it impacts Europe economically and in terms of security. The reason they did not get involved is because many understood that this was an illegal conflict yet being lazy in making a plausible argument – as usual – they suggest that it is not something that affects them; but it obviously does. They promise to get involved when somehow magically peace returns (wow, now that’s “clever”).
3. The EU is proving yet again that they are still bound to the U.S. bear as I mentioned in a previous post (following gingerly rather than boldly in the not too distant past); Finally, the EU Properly “Stretches” in Facing Up to the Mideast Crisis . In other words high on statements/posturing and very low on actions/direction, and this is very problematic and mostly for Europe .
4. As for Kaja Kallas I’m beginning to question her ability/competence as High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. I don’t care much about credentials to be honest but make judgements based on performance, statements made and overall ability to make visible/productive changes to EU foreign policy; I’ve seen very little of her beyond being a mouth piece/cover for Ursula von der Leyen. More importantly she’s always seems to be following events rather than being on top of them this at a special moment in global history that deserves special abilities/experience and track record. Anyway it’s not a person I take seriously as someone consequential in foreign policy and that’s just a personal opinion based on her performance.
Hope that makes some sense to some.
