Here’s my take as someone who cares about this country; true investigations are ongoing about this disgusting crime but I would suggest that politicians on all sides should take notice of how they maybe stoking violence by their vile statements. In relation to this specific incident and where there is evidence in this direction, they must also be held accountable directly irrespective of ideology (right, left or centre) and irrespective of position because any signs of tolerance or indifference at any level would be a grave mistake. The political establishment should also – in a perfect world – assess this incident and come up with concrete changes/recommendations & guidelines governing political debates/statements particularly at these critical moments where political ideologies and the toxic environment they create are putting too much pressure on a governance model that’s reaching breaking point. Democracy also requires an urgent/meaningful upgrade/reform because it has remained static for far too long where the world has/continues to change fast and with many more in the way of challenges/threats; these should not be an excuse to fast track reactionary laws/regulations that exacerbate the situation but requires careful assessment otherwise solutions imposed may well create additional vulnerabilities and can/will swiftly backfire.
