They say the proof is in the pudding, so the jury is pretty much out on how Andy Burnham will deal with foreign policy challenges. That said my judgement based purely on the exchange/temperament during the interview with Gary Lineker is that Andy will deliver little in the way of concrete changes in foreign policy and I don’t see him as someone who can lead a nation particularly in a complex geopolitical landscape (not the profile, expertise or track record I would choose in this particular moment). He doesn’t come across as a straight forward “matter of fact” kinda guy with a vision/philosophy but as someone walking gingerly on eggshells even during his recent speech to the Labour party. That said I wish him all the best and I hope he proves me wrong. I also don’t believe it will take long for all to find out what he’s really about.
