Interview with Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov
Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov was a Soviet journalist and a former KGB informant who defected to Canada in 1970 disillusioned, bitter, and adversarial when they realized the true nature of Soviet communism. In his lectures and interviews we learn plenty about Soviet/Russian Active Measures and Ideological Subversion but it seems to me that the lessons he preached have yet to be learnt as we see today. The main lesson in my opinion is that Liberal Democracy in its current incarnation is designed to fail and unless protections are developed (particularly in the area of Misinformation and Disinformation) refined and constantly updated our system will break from within and with the minimal of pressure from adversaries. As I mentioned in many many previous posts; if our Information echo system continues to be allowed to be compromised there is no power on earth that can help protect us from destruction; Information & Education are our only key tools that can prevent this from happening . The only thing I’d add is that in the above clip Yuri Bezmenov above talks of socialist/leninist propaganda being pumped into heads of the young; in this age however it is all forms of social/political propaganda designed to develop conflict/animosity within the fabric of the society so that it has the ability to self-destruct from within by empowering extreme politics and perpetrating disinformation at every level to shake the confidence of the nation and its institutions.
The other things that really bothers me in this west-east power play is this; these are nations with a luxury of vast resources to keep them going but for poor developing nations that are caught between this divide and are used as the pawns in this ideological/political battle they are the ones suffering the most whether it be in terms regional conflicts with millions of lives are unnecessarily lost, or internal oppression by the rich/powerful being used by these play makers to keep their nations from aspiring to Democratic reform/transition- not to mention the environmental cost that we all pay for today and into the future. There is a better way to address these issues and I hope that wisdom eventually prevails and Freedom/Democracy/Prosperity gradually spread/strengthen around the world; it’s all about us selecting the right leaders to get us there – ones who are keen to let go the old baggage of the past that’s in the way.
Hope you enjoy this clip. Below is also a link to a lecture by Yuri Bezmenov on the same topic and in more detail.
