Here’s what we’ve seen; once the breach occurred rightwing politicians/media were not interested in how/why it happened because the narrative was already prepared/signed off and ready for circulation along with the accompanying theatrics because they knew well that this presents a golden opportunity for reactionary panic to fuel public sentiment on the primary and possibly the only issue they use to stay in power; without it they fall all on their face – my opinion anyway.
Sorry, did I just say “narratives” – that’s a mistake on my part so please excuse me cause there were also plenty in the way of straight out lies just to give an “extra bang for the buck” so to speak.
So am I suggesting mass migration is not a threat – well not so fast. In my last post on this topic I said that this incident demonstrates border vulnerabilities not like this situation but in order to draw attention to help deal with resolving (not patching up) regional conflicts (many of which many western nations are clearly complicit), issues of oppressive governance, economic decline fuelled by environmental catastrophes; this rather than let them reach dangerous levels and force people away from their homes/regions not for a buck but for dear life – imagine what you would have done. So one can either continue to bury their head in the sand, waste time/money fixing a list of flawed priorities based on ignorant assessments or finally begin the journey of making hard choices before they become unachievable when time runs out.
Just a thought. Anyway, an interesting analysis/commentary below by Hala Gorani on Facebook.
