Here is a short story (actually 2 of them). As you may or may not know if you’ve been following my music posts; ABBA is one of my all time favorite bands. I can’t recall precisely when I was hooked – and that’s exactly have far back I “can’t” remember 🙂 For me it is not a matter of nostalgia, but I actually love the music and lyrics that go with it. Beautiful memories, great songs and a fantastic group of artists so what more can one say. This is why I was a bit worried about ABBA’s comeback with their new album after many artists hit rock bottom when they attempt a similar endeavour. However once I heard the first song of the album (I Still Have Faith In You – with the rest of the album not yet released) my concerns just vanished in an instant and it felt exactly the same way when I heard ABBA’s music in the old days; so to sum up I’m absolutely thrilled with their comeback. Now to my 2nd/final short story and that is about deciding to do a playalong with this song. I enjoy playing ABBA music but this time I also wanted to arrange my performance in a way that is – in my opinion – appropriate for the piece. The problem was that I decided to use the French Horn as the main instrument and the cornet as secondary despite the fact that I am still relatively new to playing the French Horn (started this year) as opposed to the Trumpet, Cornet and Flugelhorn. I hope the effort overall is acceptable and I will continue to work on expanding my experience/repertoire when it comes to musical arrangement.
