This is one of those clips that demonstrates a multitude of talent; from brilliant choreography/facial expressions to superb camera movements but begins with fantastic music and from there everything else cleverly blends in. As much as I love music as an amateur trumpet player, I love watching great choreography which I hope to capture/interpret in the near future as a professional photographer; just imagine if you will someone like me who’s passionate about photography, music & choreography getting involved in projects involving all three! I actually learned about the “frug” form of dance very recently though I enjoyed it even before knowing its name; from the dances in the box office hit Cabaret onwards and below is another one of these great clips choreographed by the famous Bob Fosse.
I could mention the best bits in the clip above but it would be a long list; so will only highlight the 1 part of the clip when male dancers approaching camera under a bridge while the camera follows them through highs/lows to end in low camera level then transitions slowly – though could have been smoother/more seamless – upward to the lead lady dancer – which I believe to be main choreographer for the dance Emma Scherer – who begins the new routine with the raising of her eyebrows then starts another set of well synced/brilliant movements. The the only thing I would say is that compared to clip below which provides foundational elements of the movements some of them need a bit more intensity (or more punchy) like the initial “punch” move of Emma at the start of the clip and a few others as well. In addition there seems to be more static body movements than necessary particularly with such a wonderful/beat rhythm that could have allowed more dynamic interesting quick movements – but thats the nitty gritty of a complete layman.
Oh I just wish I could dance like that; but then again I probably could 🙂 Hope you enjoy both clips.
