The U.S Constitution First Amendment:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The Freedom of speech in this context is simple; it prohibits government censorship of public speech; it does not translate to government or politicians engaging in false speech (aka ‘lies’) as suggested by the genius Jim Jordan; this should be darn obvious otherwise the system becomes rigged when it normalises the circulation of disinformation and false narratives. Lies omitting from the political establishment cannot be protected by this or any other amendment (this would be ridiculous to even suggest); there is a reason why politicians take an oath to protect the constitution and serve with integrity otherwise they’re neither protecting the constitution nor serving with integrity. This is really a mess we see across western democracies where the system is reaching a breaking point due to corruption, cronyism and foreign meddling.
