Congrats to Navi Pilay for this award – more like a nice gesture – for her serious work in defending human rights – I just wish it was a joint award with Francesca Albanese who paid and continues to pay a personally price for exposing/continuing to expose genocide and human rights violations. It is quite perplexing to see awards given and human rights defenders championed yet when it comes to actions very little effort if any is being actually achieved on the ground. I would have suggested against recipient/s accepting the award and instead demanding the prize of such awards be better used/dedicated towards actions that help resolve/end conflicts and to those affected by it so that states begin to notice that there are no sidetracks to distract from their primary obligations of ensuring the respect of international law and justice.
