Now we’ve heard/talked plenty about racism & white supremacist ideologies but this one really takes the kick as this image demonstrates. Worse yet than this disgusting image – taken in 2019 would you believe – is the follow up comment of the police chief;
“Although this is a trained technique and best practice in some scenarios, I believe our officers showed poor judgment in this instance and could have waited for a transport unit at the location of arrest” and suggesting the officers “did not have any malicious intent at the time of arrest“ – i.e this is the normal around here fellas so please don’t make much of it; and here my friends lies the real tragedy of the situation. The problem is not the actions of the police officers or the police force but what it reflects in terms of vile ideologies that have infested societies for centuries which we thought are in bygone days – but it turns out they’re still alive and kicking because in some dark corners of this earth of ours they’re considered the “norm”. Why? Well my simplistic view is that somewhere along the way we began to focus all our forces on all methods of material development but ignored the fact that without moral/ethical development any other forms of development are unsustainable – and even reversible. Again as I repeat from earlier posts; this ain’t rocket science we’re talking about here but just common sense that you need not spend time reading/researching about to reach the conclusion.
So in a nutshell let me say that I do not entirely blame racist/bigots for their vile ideologies (provided of obviously that no violence is involved) but rather the governance systems – not just in America – that have completely/utterly failed to root them out. So the question is; is this a moment of Normalisation or a moment for Transformation? I suspect it will be latter if for nothing else but the fact that western societies demographics are changing fast – like it or not – and this will have a tremendous impact on ensuring racism is on it’s last leg; let’s just make sure though that we don’t go extreme in the opposite direction.
